2020 Seat Leon Price, Release date, Hybrid, and Engines. 2020 Seat Leon is on the way, and the Spanish manufacturer couldn’t hide this from us. Despite using the body of the current Leon wagon as the test mule, their intention is clear. Seat plans to launch the new model which will over-shine all previous models and most of the competition. They plan to do this by offering 2020 Leon equipped with a technology-packed cabin, and a first-ever electric drive system for this vehicle.
New Seat Leon was caught on the same roads where one of its clansman (Volkswagen Golf VIII) was spied just weeks ago. Volkswagen group is looking to update its models through entire segment, and Leon is next in line. Just as the eight generation of Golf was using the different body, the case is the same with this one.
Under the Hood
Like we mentioned, in addition to state of the art cabin, 2020 Seat Leon will also boast a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This will be the first time ever that this model has this type of technology. Spanish manufacturer promises better fuel economy and zero-emissions. The Leaon hybrid should clear the path for the first ever Seat’s EV which should be out in 2020.
At the moment Leon has eight different engines offered. The range started with only five but quickly expanded. As the base offering, we have a 108bhp, 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol, and a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel. They are followed by a pair of 1.4-liter gasoline powerplants that offer 123bhp and 148bhp respectively. One of the most popular engines that comes with this model is a 2.0-liter diesel unit capable of producing 148bhp. At the top of the range, you will find a 1.8-liter TSI nit capable of 179bhp, and a 2.0-liter diesel offered with 182bhp.
Exterior, Interior, Platform
Despite being in an old body, the prototype was camouflaged in the areas around front fascia, D-pillars, and both headlights and taillights. We can’t tell why, but the test mule of what’s to be a 2020 Seat Leon was lower in the rear end. The possibility is that it was carrying some sort of testing equipment. Regardless of that, all signs point in the direction that the car is in the earliest stages of its development.
As it could be expected new Leon will share its platform with above mentioned Mk8 Golf. Both use Volkswagen’s MQB platform. You shouldn’t be surprised if you see a Leon SUV; as this is just one of the plans that this Spanish manufacturer has for the future of this model.
As for the inside of this car, Seat has big plans. At the moment they are bragging that their future interface will be able to parry the one used in Tesla’s Model X. They plan to equip the infotainment displays with touchscreen technology. This move would remove all of the physical buttons away from the dashboard. Instead of the climate/heating dials, new 2020 lean will have a second screen offered.
2020 Seat Leon Release date
2020 Seat Leon will most likely be released in the summer months of 2019 as 2020 MY. The higher spec and hybrid models will follow later in the year. The possibility that we will have to wait for the hybrid Leon till 2020 also exists. What we should look forward are the months of new spy photos and information that will without a doubt come our way.
As far as the price goes new 2020 Leon will go quite above from what’s in today’s market. With incredible new technology which is promised and new electric power-trains, the price increase is merited. The current model starts in the $20,000 region, but more expensive sports version go above $30,000. The hybrid will most likely find its place in between, depending on the level of equipment you choose.
Like every year the primary goal of every Leon is to dethrone Volkswagen Golf as the most popular vehicle in this segment. Both cars are manufactured by Volkswagen group and are rivals ever since Leon entered the market. Another notable competitor of this compact car is Kia’s Cee ‘d.
