Jeep continues the redesigning method of its entire fleet and next in the line is an iconic Jeep Grand Cherokee The current generation, mid-size Jeep SUV has been around since 2010 and to stay applicable in the fast-growing market the model needs some attention. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will initialize the fifth generation of the model and following the redesign of the iconic SUV will be an introduction of new three-row SUVs likely named Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.
As for the next Grand Cherokee, the prototype versions spotted on the roads suggest evolutionary phrase changes and revised dimensions of the model. The new-gen model will also change the underpinning while leaked details promise radical upgrades inside the cabin. The new Grand Cherokee should again offer a long list of powertrain options some new and some familiar. The model should also make the use of the mild-hybrid system.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Powertrains
We don’t have precise details about the energy options of the new-gen 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee but we have some assumptions about what Jeep might have in plan.
What ensures a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 will return but likely combined with the eTorque system. As the newest Ram 1500, a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 should also be assisted by the mild-hybrid setup. A newcomer to the powertrain range should be FCA’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine again mixed with the hybrid unit. A 3.0-liter EcoDiesl V-6 is also mentioned as the possibility. The new Grand Cherokee should again come in the Trackhawk version. The plug-in hybrid powertrain should join the lineup a few years after the debut.
The redesigned Grand Cherokee will again employ an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and offer also off-road specialized version.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Platform
It’s not the secret what platform the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will use. CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed in 2018 that next-generation Grand Cherokee will share the platform with the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. The rear-wheel-drive-based underpinning known as Giorgio should provide some weight saving and better ride high quality for the new Grand Cherokee. It is also designed with the electrification in the mind and the plug-in hybrid setup should also appear sometime in the life cycle of the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee.
From the visual perspective, the next Grand Cherokee should appear with evolutionary curling changes. The prototypes prospered the roads several times suggest that the next version will be larger and with more defined body lines. The prototype seems to have a longer wheelbase and rear overhang which should translate to better interior comfort and more cargo space.
The front-end curling will again be defined by the seven-slot grille but in a slightly different form. The slimmer headlights will embrace Jeep’s signature grille and the model will also arrive with the modified front bumper.
The profile should sport boxy wheel arcs and a more chiseled charter line. The rear gets slimmer taillights combined with the sculpted tailgate. Jeep also repositioned the exhaust pipes to provide a better departure angle.
The cabin of the redesigned Grand Cherokee should feature more radical changes than the exterior. The longer wheelbase and rear overhang should ensure better comfort and more cargo room. There should be both two and three-row configurations.
The new Grand Cherokee should also include the redesigned dash and upgraded technologies as the leaked details suggest. Like in every Jeep there will be several touchscreen options. The model should include the newest Uconnect documentary film system managed via 7- and 8.4-inch touchscreen versions. The larger 10.1-inch option is also reported. The redesigned mid-size SUV will also get a new 10.4-inch panel in upper grades.
Jeep will also employ the newest safety technologies including some level of self-driving capability.
