2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer: Redesign, Price, News, and Specs. Since Fiat Chrysler Automobiles presented the impressive five-year plan in 2014, different theories and rumors have been circulating about the return of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates in the Jeep’s SUV range. Jeep redesigned several SUV models in the meantime and introduced also the Wrangler-based truck while FCA presented also the new Ram trucks. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is also getting close to the redesign and should appear on the market for the 2021 model year. The spy photos of the model reveal that its redesign is well underway but there is also proof that the Wagoneer and 2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer are in the works.
Several details spotted on the prototype model with Ram’s truck body reveal some details about the new Wagoneers while we have also some idea about the model’s styling and powertrains. Jeep is currently missing the large three-row SUV and new models will fill the gap. The new Wagoneer will be the brand’s new, full-size, three-row SUV analog to the Chevy Tahoe. The Grand Wagoneer should essentially be the long-wheelbase version, an alternative to the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL.
The new 2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be based on the platform sourced from the new Ram 1500 as evidenced by the recent spy photos. The model will follow the trend of other large SUVs which switching to the independent rear suspension like the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and future Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. It will also use the newest tech achievements and high-value comfort features.
2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Powertrains
What powertrains will be the choice for the new 2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is still unconfirmed. We know that Jeep announced the electrification of its entire range. The Grand Waggoneer should appear with the plug-in setup but probably sometime after the arrival of the initial models with conventional powertrains although Jeep will likely use the mild-hybrid system in some configurations.
Sharing the platform with the Ram 1500 should also mean that the model would use some of its powertrains. The candidates are a 3.6-liter V-6 as the entry-level engine and 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 as a more powerful option. Jeep could also employ the eTorque mild-hybrid system with these engines. A 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 might also appear on the equipment list. There is also a possibility that a new turbocharged inline-6 engine combined with the mild-hybrid technology would be used. There are no many details about this engine.
2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Design
What is sure about the new 2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the model will be new body-on-frame SUV with the components shared with the recently all-new Ram 1500. The spy photos reveal, however, that Grand Wagoneer will swap the live real axle for the independent rear suspension to get benefits in ride comfort and more passenger space in the third row.
As for the styling of the future full-size Jeep, we haven’t yet seen the pictures with the model’s production body and therefore we can’t tell for sure how it will look. We are sure that the model will share a similar styling theme as the brand’s recent models and the new Grand Cherokee is also expected to come with modest styling upgrades. The Yuntu Concept model presented at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show should also be influential for the model’s look and it has obviously a lot in common with the Grand Cherokee’s style.
The interior of the model will favorize the comfort of passengers and there should be enough space for adults in all three rows and significant cargo capacity.
The model will also use high-quality materials in every grade and come equipped with the newest tech achievements. Like the new Grand Cherokee, the Grand Wagoneer will have the new generation connectivity and entertainment technologies but should also exploit the Level 3 semi-autonomous driving tech.
Some reports suggest also that Grand Wagoneer could be an ultra-posh trim of the Wagoneer like the GMC Yukon Denali.
