Audi will introduce the next-gen A3 model that should go on sale later in 2021. Interestingly, a new model is already on sales overseas. This gives us an idea of how the new model could look like in the U.S.
Dubbed as 40 TFSI e, this powertrain will find its place in the A3 Sportback model. We have plenty of details about the arriving sedan and that includes the latest exterior and interior changes. A new generation will look better, it will offer the PHEV version but it will also cost more.
Audi A3 Sportback Plug-In Hybrid Specs
As we said, we don’t know if the new 2023 Audi A3 Sportback Plug-In Hybrid will go on sale in the United States. This model will surely offer a hybrid variant in Europe. It combines a 1.4-liter turbo-four engine with an electric motor. The motor is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This output is capable of producing 201 horsepower and almost 260 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels exclusively. According to Audi, this sedan sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds.
On top of that, top speed is rated at 141 mph. The previous generation offered an 8.8-kWh battery that provided 16 miles of all-electric range. The 2023 A3 Sportback PHEV will arrive with a 13-kWh battery, so we expect a better range. Outside the United States, this sedan provides 40 miles, which is a significant improvement. Still, Audi is yet to unveil closer details, regarding the new powertrain option.
Changes
We still don’t have official details but some upgrades and changes are about to happen. For a start, the 2023 Audi A3 Sportback Plug-In Hybrid will arrive with new 16-inch wheels and standard LED headlights. Moreover, Audi will slightly modify the rear section.
On the inside, this modern sedan comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Audi offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster too. New model will gain more standard features and new optional safety aids.
What About Regular A3 Sportback?
No doubt, the new 2023 Audi A3 Sportback Plug-In Hybrid is a better choice in every possible way. The regular A3 is still a powerful and very handsome sedan. This model comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that works in combination with a mild-hybrid system.
A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is available and this model generates slightly above 200 horses. Audi will also introduce the S3 sedan with a similar setup, but it will provide 305 horsepower. The most powerful variant is still the RS 3 model with 400 horsepower.

The sales will begin later in 2021, but we can’t confirm if this sedan will offer a 40 TFSI e powertrain in the United States.
