2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Redesign, PHEV, Electric, Hybrid. The upcoming 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is ready for the next chapter. Mitsubishi unveiled the second-gen Eclipse Cross a few days ago. The small crossover will suffer a couple of significant upgrades, including a bolder exterior design. Moreover, interior design is also refreshed. The highlight of the 2023 Eclipse Cross will be a hybrid powertrain option.

We won’t have to wait long for this crossover to arrive. The gasoline-powered variant will arrive next month in Australia. As for the hybrid version, this model will go on sale at some point in 2023, most likely in the first half of the year.

Eclipse Cross PHEV Based on Outlander PHEV SUV

The first variant of the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will arrive next month. It is a gasoline-powered model, using a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine. This unit is already available in the current Eclipse Cross and it provides 135 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable transmission is offered as standard and an all-wheel-drive setup is also available. However, the highlight of the redesigned 2023 model is its plug-in hybrid powertrain option.

The Eclipse Cross PHEV will deploy a 2.4-liter engine that also powers the current Outlander SUV. Moreover, the same 13.8 kW battery pack is available. In Outlander, this combination generates 210 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque. The battery will provide an all-electric driving range of 34 miles. We are showing the specs of the Outlander PHEV variant but we hope the Eclipse Cross will provide slightly better figures. The small crossover will arrive with tweaked suspension and larger rear shocks.

2023 Eclipse Cross Design Changes

The latest redesign will separate the Eclipse Cross from its smaller ASX sibling. Thanks to that, the new 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will get a more unique design. Some changes are visible at first glance, including new front fascia. For the start, this small crossover will look sharper now and it will wear a more futuristic design. The front part comes with the brand-new mesh grille so the old grille with horizontal chrome bar is gone.

New pair of headlight clusters is available and it looks very modern. The rear end will receive notable changes too. The back of the crossover will gain a more conventional single piece of tailgate glass. On top of that, the top-mounted spoiler looks more traditional as well. The taillights are redesigned and Mitsubishi will introduce new exterior colors.

Interior Looks Better

At this moment, not all of the interior upgrades are available. However, we know more than enough about the latest changes inside the cabin. The 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will now get the upholstery color that is matched to trim elements, depending on specification.

Additionally, Mitsu delivers an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This screen now sits closer to the driver’s position and its interface is better than ever before. The touchpad control system is gone and Mitsu will offer physical tuning knobs in that place.

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Price and Release Date

The price of the second-gen 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is not available yet. The Japanese automaker will release more details in the next few days. As we said, the gasoline-powered variant will arrive first, this November in Australia. As for the brand-new Eclipse Cross PHEV, this version will go on sale in the first quarter of 2023.
